Talk title: Soft robot, beyond compliance

Abstract: Soft robotics is a multidisciplinary research field and is widely studied all over the world for the past two decades. Active deformation to better adapt to complicated environments and selective tuning of structural stiffness to perform steady and powerful actions are of great significance. Nevertheless, creating soft robots with the capability of active deformation while maintaining the space for selective stiffness tuning is sort of contradictory from the perspective of design. Therefore, it is challenging but valuable to investigate how to equip soft robots with both of these two characteristics. This talk will introduce some of our research projects to address the challenge and demonstrate the potential applications of our robots in clinical, industrial, daily and some other scenarios.
